Dinah Shore introduces the long-faced comedian Joey Bishop to smile……. (1960)
I knew he was considered part of Sinatra’s “Rat Pack” but I never really got Joey Bishop’s appeal until I saw him here on Youtube as a repeated guest panelist on the wonderful game show “What’s My Line” (over a couple years of really funny ad-libbed performances). For that very proper period of the early ’60’s, he always had an edginess and a great delivery that cut through the heavy network stiffness of the time. He was pretty uncompromising in his improvised comments and deadpan style and now I’m a big fan!
