When a joke bombed, Mitch would often say, “That joke will be fixed. I’m going to take out some words and put some better words in. Maybe even some funny ones.” He was brilliant.
Hedberg was fascinating. Driven to perform yet suffered from incredible stage fright. And so, so, so simplistically funny. Few comedians have had his level of delivery.
His face, his cadence, that smile, that hair, his demeanor, the original style, shuffling around awkwardly – what a wonderful entertainer.
“I Like cottage cheese so I wanna try other dwellings cheeses too” is one of the most clever, well worded, and underrated jokes ever. Holy crap that is good!!
His first public performance on Comedy Central was amazing. No one there understood his humor until about halfway through (he was bombing hard), at which point he won them over. It’s funny because he never changed a thing about how he performs comedy, and his act was so successful because he is charming enough to just win you over! And then and only then do you see the sheer genius in it all.
